Hello,

I have a question about Boxshot.Is it possible to fold booklets for example, for 3 parts of different widths?

Hello Michal,

This is not supported out of the box, but there are some tricks you can use to get such shape:

1. Use semi-transparent artwork, so the left part is of the same width, but its left part is transparent, so the visible part looks like a reduced flap;

2. Use Origami to make exactly the shape you need, then import it to Boxshot for rendering;

3. Use 3 plane objects set together to mock a brochure you need.

Hope this helps to start. Let me know if you need a more detailed help on any of the above.

I've found that, while in real life it is easy to fold a trifold brochure and make it stand up, in Boxshot it is very difficult. With the defaults, the end frames/panels intersect each other by more than 3/8 of an inch —very nearly half an inch. I expect this is a combination of (a) the panels in Boxshot (using the Booklet object) are all equal, whereas in real life they would be slightly different, and (b) in real life the paper bows or flexes a bit, but in Boxshot it is all dead straight.

It would be nice if there could be a simpler workaround for this problem within the Boxshot app, such as being able to tweak the frame/panel widths, and/or being able to add some bend to the paper. I know Photoshop very well, so the transparency hack mentioned in the previous reply will probably be my solution, but it involves some extra steps outside of Boxshot, and getting it setup correctly could be a hassle.

Sure, the problem is that on top of that we need a nice and simple user interface. Personally, I don't really like how it is done now with all these parameters for angles. On the other hand, I don't see a way to do it simpler. Maybe a special pop-up editor, like we have for loft/lathe/extrude objects?

It would be nice if you share your vision of the interface that will work for you.

Probably the easiest way would be to indicate the place of folding using sliding lines.
Analogously to Crop texture defining the area of the page.

What if there was a control for the fold that worked like the rotate control, but with only one axis, in the direction of the fold. It would appear automagically when you are on the edit panel for the object. And just as with the rotation tool, there would be a number input for tweaking. In place of the other fields, you could have controls to add/remove panels, and when a new panel is added you can specify its width, or edit the width of an existing panel.

We don't have such controls in Boxshot, but it is a good idea to think about... Thank you :)
