side of 3D of hardcover book looks jagged

Hi there,

I'm making 3D's of books for a brochure and the spine keeps coming up jagged. You don't see it at first, but when I place the image over another image or colored background it has some white edging. How can I fix this?

Can I see some screenshots showing the problem, please?

sure, here are some examples. As you can see, it's on the right and left side,

Do you mean this?

Can you make a simple project that clearly reproduces that? I can't make it look this way here. It would also help to know your rendering settings like resolution, quality and so on, including the version of the software you use.

Btw, I like the images. It would be nice if you can share something for our gallery. Can you?

Hi, I'm not sure if I understand how I can send you a project, so I've grabbed a screenshot from my starting point:

I render at appr. 6000 x 6000 px, at 300 dpi with racetracer 2. As far as I know I'm working with the latest version of Boxshot. I see it's called 4.14.2

About the images, thanks! I would have to check if I can share them on the gallery. I don't own the rights.

Oh and my biggest concern is more this white showing up.

The latest stable Boxshot is 4.15.1, so I would recommend updating the software and seeing if it helps. If not, please send the project you show on the screenshot. Simply set up everything, so the problem is there, then click File->Collect Resources in the main menu and point to an empty folder. Then compress everything you'll find there and send the ZIP here.

Also, we have Boxshot 5 beta in the blog, you can try it as well. It features a different renderer that may work better for you.

As for the white stripe on the last image - I need the project with the artwork for that. It could the backside visible from the front, or maybe an artefact. It is hard to tell by just a screenshot.

Hi Vitaly,

I've updated to 4.15.1 and recreated the projects. It is much beter now. Thanks for your help!

I wasn't sure what you meant by having Boxshot 5 in the blog. Do you mean I can download that and start using it or is it just a test version and will I have to purchase it in order to use it for real?

As long as you have a valid non-expired license for version 4, you can use version 5, as well. Boxshot 5 uses a different rendering engine that may further improve your renderings, but as long as you are happy with the latest Boxshot 4, you can stay there while version 5 is still in beta.
