How to create a correct texture for a football, christmas ball etc.

We have real cutting patterns for footballs, that we use in production for promo balls. But if I place them on a sphere, they didn't work. How must look the correct pattern / texture that the surface of a sphere will be filled completely seemless without overlappings or free areas? Please, could you post a correct cutting pattern / texture?

Can you share a sample image that you have?

Below you will find 3 low res cutting patterns for classical footballs. With them you can easily test the behaviour. We have about 20 different in vector formats. How can we get them work with the sphere?

Pattern 1

Pattern 2

Pattern 3

And here you can see the result of Pattern 2

Any idea?

Jürgen

I afraid you can't fit that onto a sphere in Boxshot :(

Boxshot expects a latlong image for sphere, like this one:

Any chance you can convert your artwork this way?

No, not for design patterns. We have build in the past for Pattern 1 a latlong image, but to redo this for every existing pattern and then for the various designs will become a nightmare.

Here is the adjusted Pattern 1

And here's the result

Is there a way to convert the existing cutting patterns to a map, that will work?

Best regards,
Jürgen

I never heard about that, but I believe there must be something made specifically for balls. Somewhere...
