How to build custom objects?

Filip Blažek 11 months ago updated by Vitaly Ovchinnikov 11 months ago 3

Hello, I would like to build several custom book templates. Could you please recommend me the best software to create the 3D models? I used SketchUp so far, Collada files works pretty. The only problem I have is mapping of curved textures. The leaves in original book models are following the shape of the sheets of paper in the opened book, I cannot achieve this in Sketchup. Or is there a better up to create the models? Thanks!

This highly depends on your needs and your skills, so I don't think I can recommend something specific. What are the shapes you need? Maybe there is a simpler way to do them?

Hi, my main reason was to build an open softcover book with a thin spine. Then I realized this feature is included in the beta version of Boxshot :-) Nevetheless, I sometimes need to create special objects, like this "concrete" book. I did create the model in SketchUp but perhaps there is a better tool.

Yes, the new books are much more flexible compared to the old ones. As for the stone blocks, have a look at the loft shapes: https://boxshot.com/boxshot/tutorials/advanced/loft/ - you can make such shapes easily, yet the mapping might be tricky. Also you can try 3D Text and Extrude shapes for that. Give them a try and let me know if they fit.
