What happened with all the great ambience shadows?!

Anders Nyman 4 months ago updated by Vitaly Ovchinnikov 4 months ago 1

It is almost impossible to get a nice basic ambience shadow. In previous versions this was the default but since version 4 (I think) it is really hard to both understand the settings and get them to accomplish what I am after. Moving the shadow sliders don't appear to have any effect and it's not until I render that I might see a difference. Frustrating to say the least.
I've tried to understand the tutorials I have found but none of them actually bring up how these sliders are meant to work. Not as far as I have seen anyway.

I'd recommend switching preview to raytracing mode, so you can see the changes immediately in real time without rendering the scene.

Then have a look at this tutorials:

https://boxshot.com/boxshot/tutorials/advanced/lighting/

"Ambience shadow" is done by environment map and the tutorials explain what needs to be adjusted to control that effect. If it still doesn't help, you are welcome to post some images that you want to make.
